Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This report is part of the research project Integration of knowledge and professional learning. Multi-professional collaboration and negotiation of meaning in relation to student health. The aim of the project was to extend knowledge about school based student health teams’ partnership, collaboration and interprofessional learning. This report focuses on professionals’ representations of how student health services are organized and managed. Four models of student health organization and management were delineated.

These models differ in several aspects of importance for the meaning and "gestalt" of student health services. The professional groups typically preferred one or the other of these organizational models and differed in their interpretation of their advantages and disadvantages. One important difference was if they preferred a local school-based organization or a central organization.

Abstract [en]

pproximately 1500 young immigrant women living in Sweden sought help from various public organisations during 2004 due to problems related to Protection of Family Honour (PFH). Often they seek help from school nurses and counsellors. Information on how the school nurses and counsellors manage this complex PFH phenomenon is limited in Sweden. The aim was to generate a theoretical model that illuminates the experiences of school counsellors and school nurses counselling teenage girls, who worry about problems related to protection of family honour. Data were collected through individual interviews of the school welfare staff. The study subjects included welfare staff from six upper-secondary schools consisting of four nurses and six counsellors. Grounded theory methods were used to generate new knowledge as this is a new field of research. The staffs main goal was to provide the best support and help for the teenage girls. In addition, they wanted to be true to their professional ethics and values. However, this was difficult and created professional dilemmas because some teenage girls prevented them from doing what they thought was needed to support the teenage girls and protect them from violence. As a result, staff sometimes felt hampered, unable to help or able to help only in ways hidden from the teenage girls families.

Abstract [en]

This report is part of a research project "Integration of knowledge and interprofessional learning. Multiprofessional collaboration and negotiation of meaning in relation to student health". Multiprofessional teams have a long history in Swedish schools but recently a new type of multiprofessional teams was proposed by the Swedish Government integrating health services, psychosocial services with special education. The aim of the present study was to create more understanding about the social representations of professional services from multi professional school teams by exploring each profession’s social representation of their services and their social representations of the other professions’ services. Fourteen focus groups were interviewed and data were analyzed with content analyses (Graneheim & Lundman, 2003). Most professional groups had a common representation of their own service as health promoting but did not expect health promotion from the other professions to the same extent. Results are discussed in reference to Social Representation Theory, (Moscovici, 1969), Theory of professions (Abbot, 1988) and Social Identity Perspective (Brewer, 2003).

The study was supported by a grant from The Swedish Research Council.

Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

From jubilant sports fans celebrating a victory to angry political protestors, crowds create volatile situations that can all too often result in violence or property destruction. Preventing Crowd Violence offers a lucid examination of crowd behavior and of law enforcement tactics designed to deescalate tensions and promote cooperative interactions.

Abstract [en]

Multiprofessional teams have a long history in Swedish schools but recently a new type of multiprofessional service was proposed by the Swedish government in order to integrate two existing parallel services (school health care and psychosocial care) with special education into one service with the aim of promoting health, learning and wellbeing in schools. This report is part of a research project "Integration of knowledge and interprofessional learning. Multiprofessional collaboration and negotiation of meaning in relation to student health" The aim of the present study was to explore the professional representations of collaboration within  school based multi professional teams. In total fourteen focus groups with professions from primary school (1-9), school paediatricians, school nurses, school psychologists, school social workers, special education teachers and principles were interviewed, adding up to 82 interviewees. A qualitative and mainly inductive, content analyses according to Graneheim & Lundman, (2003) was used. Representations of interprofessional collaboration are described in terms of (a) disciplinary domains (knowledge and experience) and (b) physical arenas (team meetings). The results are described in reference to the different professional groups and analysed from three theoretical perspectives: Social Representation Theory (Moscovici, 1969), Theory of professions (Abbot, 1988) and Social Identity Perspective (Brewer, 2003).

Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

Background: Annually, thousands of women are exposed to violence and murder by male relatives in the name of family honour. In Sweden young women with immigrant backgrounds consult primary healthcare services for problems related to the protection of family honour (PFH). However, there is little knowledge about how to manage this specific type of family violence in the primary healthcare systems of industrialized countries. Aim: To generate a theoretical model to promote knowledge about how youth clinic (YC) personnel in Swedish primary care perceive and manage problems related to the PFH. Methods: Seven midwives and five counsellors at four YCs in Stockholm suburbs participated in four group interviews. Data were analysed according to the grounded theory method. Results: The YC staffs main concern is to avoid making the young womens situation worse with their constant anxiety about having breeched the honour rules. Three consecutive steps have been discerned in the worry analysis process to help the girls struggling with problems related to PFH: (i) creation of a refuge where their secret can be safely disclosed, (ii) risk assessment consisting of assessing the degree of the young womens anxiety, the risk of disclosure of the secret and the risk of repercussions if the secret is disclosed and (iii) worry-reducing measures, which may take the form of four different strategies: empowerment, keeping the secret, mediation and secondary prevention. Conclusion: Youth clinics have a key role in preventing repercussions caused by problems related to PFH. The study provides a theoretical model that can be used as a tool in preventive work with young women anxious about honour-related family violence. The findings were presented to a group of midwives and counsellors for validation.
