This paper deals with how the past is being presented and interpretedtoday by cultural institutions. The area in focus in this paper is situatedin the borderland of the Norse and South Sámi territory in mid-Scandinavia, in the municipalities of Rendalen and Engerdal in Norway. Thepaper will examine how two of the main actors on the arena of culturalheritage are constructing the past: the institutions of cultural heritagemanagement responsible for the studied area and museums within thearea and the adjacent surroundings. The paper will contribute to thedevelopment of knowledge within these fields. Important research questions that will be considered are: How are the official heritage institutionstoday presenting the past? Which particular pasts have been emphasized?How are they configured? Who’s past get to be included and who’s past isexcluded? How can this be understood?The methods used are fieldwork, including interviews and observations. Moreover literature and documentary studies, the study of artefactsand the analysis of archaeological material have also been used.To analyse this material theories from Feminist technoscience, Intersectionality, Critical heritage studies and Postcolonial theory are used.
