The environmental citizen takes responsibility for the impact her actions cause and has the right to demand a healthy environment. This is a theoretical ideal that has to find empirical support. When most environmental problems are cross-boundary they are not only complex, but also imply that the consequences and responsibilities are difficult to discern.
The present paper departs from an empirical case study in Swedish households where their everyday and environmentally friendly activities where in focus. In the material various examples stand out as interesting in order to discuss the theoretical ideal (and implicit assumptions) of the environmental citizenship, democratic participation and responsibility through everyday activities.
