The current climate situation calls every human for action. Behavioral change is indispensable as the currently predominant lifestyle deteriorates the living conditions of the next generations. Motivating for such a change requests different elements and a space where everyone is invited to learn from and with each other. So called community spaces invite every generation to share knowledge and ideas to live with and not against the environment. The impact community spaces could possibly have on our behavior towards the environment was investigated in the following study by interviewing three personals which I considered as potential stakeholders for community spaces. The view and opinion of a politician, a founding member of such a space and a sociologist was investigated. Additionally, three workshops with potential participants and visitors of community spaces were conducted. In total, data from 20 different respondents were collected. I found that social aspects need to be considered first to develop a sense for the environment. To motivate people to behave pro-environmentally, open spaces for creativity and inspiration need to be given. A common consensus of values should be provided, and different activities should be developed by and for people. Behavioral change is dependent on the openness for knowledge which is dependent on different aspects such as an open space to learn in the individual tempo and way. The knowledge gained increases awareness of our current behavior and promotes environmentally friendly behavior. How high the impact of community spaces on pro-environmental behavior could be depends on local conditions and the feeling of being welcome. Further research is here indispensable.
