This study contributes to knowledge of teachers’ perspectives and experiences of conditions for collaboration between compulsory school, preschool class and school age-educare. Time and place as prerequisites for collaboration was recurring topics in interviews and conversations with teachers. To be able to build collaboration between different categories of teachers, time is essential in the teachers’ talk about opportunities for collaboration. Tensions between closeness and distance, and organized or spontaneous collaboration are identified as important aspects of the core category prerequisites for collaboration. Thus, collaboration becomes linked to everyday meetings where physical closeness determines whether teachers find time to collaborate or not.
