Abstract [en]

This paper introduces FIR filter structures for interpolation and decimation by a factor of two. They are based on the frequency-response masking (FRM) approach in which the overall filter makes use of periodic model filters and nonperiodic masking filters. By using FRM techniques it is possible to obtain FIR filters requiring few multipliers even when the transition band is narrow. Further, in the proposed interpolator and decimator structures, all filtering is performed at the lowest of the two sampling rates involved which results in a low overall arithmetic complexity. This paper derives the proposed structures and demonstrates their efficiency by means of design examples. Filter design details will be considered in another paper.
