Abstract [en]

Mainstream linguistics has always been relatively ‘monologistic’ in nature. By contrast, a dialogical (‘dialogistic’) linguistics would systematically consider the subject’s relation to the other in interaction and in contexts. This article makes some suggestions concerning what such a linguistics could contain. Two phenomena are discussed in more detail: grammatical constructions with their outer syntax and lexical items with their meaning potentials. This is done with reference to Swedish data, in particular a grammatical construction called x-and-x, the syntax and semantics of which are explored.
