This volume contains the collected proceedings of the 2007 meeting of the International Committee for Museums of Archaeology and History, at which participants set out to examine the role of history and archaeology museums in society and in the contemporary global context. The meeting focused on the following four issues: 1. The role of museums as active participants in social and cultural processes. 2. Where do museums stand in the area of conflict between homogenization of memory and its many voices? 3. In what form can and should museum curators collaborate in the revision of established historical interpretations? 4. Museums in the 21st century: not only a mirror of society, but a 'diagnostic site'?
