Abstract [en]

The decreasing interest in science and technology amongst school students has been discussed over a long period. However, few studies have used questions from young people as a method to discover their spontaneous interests. In this study, the spontaneous interests of 10-year-old Swedish primary school children were examined. The empirical data was gathered and categorized into specific fields of interest focusing on science and technology. The results showed that science and technology attracts a lot of attention amongst many primary school children and many are motivated by their curiosity and experiences in life. These results are supported by other studies from around the world. Implications for both research and school development are discussed from curriculum goals and views on teaching and learning.

Skolelevers svala intresse för naturvetenskap och teknik har diskuterats under en lång tid. Trots det, har ett fåtal studier använt möjligheten att använda elevers röster för att utforska deras spontana intresse. I denna studie har detta undersökts hos 10-åriga svenska grundskolelever. Empirin kategoriseras i intresseområde med fokusering på naturvetenskap och teknik. Studien analyserar också vad som motiverar elevernas frågor. Resultaten visar att naturvetenskap och teknik får en hel del uppmärksamhet bland många grundskolelever och mycket är beroende av deras nyfikenhet och erfarenheter. Detta resultat är i överensstämmelse med andra studier. Implikationer för forskning och skolutveckling diskuteras och knyts till frågor om läroplansutveckling och synsätt på lärande och undervisningsfrågor.
