The aim of this paper is to investigate if there exist a gap between the supply (the financial scheme) and the demand (the entrepreneur) of public innovation support. Our research is built upon a survey of the applicant’s attitudes to the support given by the scheme Sweden Innovation Centre (SIC). In common for our respondents is that they have applied for public innovation finance from the SIC during its final years, 2002-2003. Among the recipients there are both rejected and supported cases. In total 294 questionnaires have been analysed, both quantitatively and qualitatively. Our results show upon that there is a gap between the support given and the support demanded. This gap is constituted by a demand for support coupled to the market. It is also shown that the support has increased the motivation of the supported firms, but we found no evidence that it has increased the credibility of the supported venture, nor it seem to have enlarged their networks or developed their business in a substantial way.
