Denne bachelor oppgaven tar for seg identifikasjon, regenerering og konsolidering av celluloselakk på treobjekt. Målet med dette prosjektet var å finne gode, enkle og sikre metoder for som ikke krevde avansert utstyr for konservatorer. Fokus har vært på krakelerte overflater, et vanlig problem med aldret celluloselakk på tre. Et ur, datert til 1940-1950, med omfattende kraklering i lakken ble valgt som test objekt.

Tre metoder for identifisering av celluloselakk blir beskrevet; løselighets test, fluorisering I UV lys, samt spot-test. Spot-testen oppfylte kravene; god, enkel og sicker metode. Regenerering av lakken ble testet med tre løseningsmiddler, her var det et spesielt middel utviklet for utgjevning av lakken ga et tilfredstillende resultat. Når det gjelder konsolideringsmetodene, oppfylte verken medium for conolidation eller paraloid B72 kravene. Resulatene indikerer derimot at videre utprøvning av disse kan gi bedre resultat.

Abstract [en]

This thesis investigates identification, regeneration and consolidation of cellulose lacquer on wooden objects. The aim of this project was to find adequate, simple and safe methods, applicable without advanced techniques for conservators. The study is focused on craquelured surfaces, a common deterioration of aged cellulose lacquer on wood. A clock dated from the 1940- to 1950´s with major craquelures in the lacquer surface was chosen as test object.

To identify cellulose lacquer, three methods is discribed; solubility test, fluorescence in UV-light and spot-test. The spot-test met all requirements to be an adequate, simple and safe method. The test to regenerate the surface was performed with three different solvents, where a special product developed for levelling of cellulose lacquer gave a satisfied result. In the consolidation test, neither medium for consolidation or paraloid B72 met the requirements. However, the results indicated that further tests might give improved results.
