Abstract [sv]

BIM har varit ett hett ämne på byggmarknaden de senaste åren. Några företag har varit snabba och vågat satsa på den nya tekniken sedan flera år tillbaka. Andra företag står fortfarande i startgroparna och överväger fördelar mot nackdelar. Andra företag väljer att inte utnyttja den nya tekniken alls.

Förkortningen BIM står för byggnadsinformationsmodellering (Building Information Modeling) och begreppet har en bred definition. En byggnadsinformationsmodell utgörs av en 3D-modell som förutom det visuella även innehåller information om de olika objekten i modellen. Arbetssättet BIM handlar om att samla all information om ett projekt på ett och samma ställe istället för att ha den utspridd bland projektets olika aktörer. På så sätt kan användning av BIM bidra till minskade felkällor och färre koordineringsmissar mellan aktörerna. En fullständig 3D-modell med uppgifter om material, dimensioner, laster och materialegenskaper utgör dessutom en utmärkt grund för alla möjliga sorters simuleringar och analyser.

Examensarbetet har fokuserats på att undersöka möjligheterna till simulering och analys med BIM i dagsläget, vad det finns för programvaror och vilka resultat de kan prestera. Genom intervjuer med ett antal personer som jobbar med byggnadsinformationsmodellering i sin vardag har avslutningsvis en uppfattning bildats om hur stor del av BIMs kapacitet som utnyttjas i branschen idag.

Abstract [en]

BIM has been a hot subject in the building industry lately. Some companies have been fast and have implemented the new technique already years ago. Other companies are still weighing advantages against disadvantages. Some companies choose not to make use of the new technique at all.

BIM stands for Building Information Modeling, and the concept has a broad definition. A building information model consists of a 3D model that, in addition to the visual part, also contains information about the different objects in the model. The way of working with BIM is about gathering all information about a project at one single place instead of spreading it out between the different project participants. In this way BIM can contribute to less coordination mistakes between the participants and a reduced number of sources of error. A complete 3D model with information about materials, dimensions, loads and material characteristics is furthermore an excellent base for all kinds of simulations and analyses.

This piece of work has been focused on the investigation of what possibilities there are for simulations and analyses together with BIM today, what software there are and what kind of results they can perform. Through interviews with a number of people that works regularly with building information modeling we have also been trying to get an idea about how much of BIM's capacity that is being used in the industry today.
