The Swedish Moderate Party – New Economic Politics in Idea and Practice? (English)
Abstract [en]

The Swedish party ”Moderaterna” is a party that has gained large  success in the parliament elections in recent years. 2005 they launched the “Nya Moderaterna” (new M.)  slogan and in 2006 the party made its best election result for a very long time and got to power in a coalition with the other right wing parties. This work investigates how the party’s economical ideas have changed after the introduction of the new moderates as compared to before. The ideas are compared between 1993 and 2011 as expressed in the party and idea programs, specifically the party’s ideas concerning the market, public sector and tax politics. In the practical politics the difference between 2001 and 2007 is studied. Two specific areas are studied; the income tax and taxation of real estate.

The material is analyzed with a qualitative text analysis and the material is classified in the categories liberal, new liberal or conservative. The result of the analysis shows that the ideas have moved from being liberal towards a more new liberal standpoint. The practical politics has not changed very much.
