Investigation of the effects of possible centralisations for ABB sites in the Västerås area
Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (Two Years)), 20 credits / 30 HE creditsStudent thesis
ABB currently has a number of different sites in the Västerås area that differ in many ways. Some of the sites are manufacturers with raw material as input and other work as retailers for finished goods. Some of the sites use third-party logistics for packaging and transports and some of the sites handles the packaging themselves. Since some of the sites do not have enough space at the site for all the goods they rent external stock keeping units from a number of different companies and the contracts with the external companies are not coordinated between the ABB sites. ABB now sees possible advantages with a future centralisation of the sites in the Västerås area and that is the reason for this study being made. The purpose of the study is to identify the different stock keeping units in the Västerås area, to see how they are dimensioned and how they work in order to find possible centralisations and cooperation between the sites. The possible centralisations are compared to each other and to the current situation in order to see what effects using a central warehouse in the Västerås area would have.
