The Adhesion onto Glass of Thin Films Deposited by Ion-Plating (Adherencia al Vidrio de Películas Delgadas Obtenidas por Ion-Plating)

Abstract [en]

The excellent adhesion of metal/metal insoluble thin film couples deposited by ion-plating is attributed to the formation of a gradual metal interface. For metal/glass pairs the adhesion is also very good and it could be explained by the presence of an interfacial oxide layer. In this paper adhesion measurements of several metal/glass pairs deposited by the ion-plating technique are presented. Adhesion measurements were made by the scratch test. For the measurements, a special device adapted to a hardness tester allowed increasing loads of 5 g precision. Adhesion results are discussed in terms of metal oxides heat formation.

La excelente adherencia de pares metal/metal insolubles obtenidos por ion-plating se atribuye a la formación de una interfaz metálica gradual. En el caso de pares metal/vidrio la adherencia también es muy buena y podría ser explicada por la presencia de una capa interfacial de óxido. En este trabajo se presentan mediciones de adherencia de varios pares metal/vidrio obtenidos por la técnica de ion-plating. Las mediciones de adherencia se hicieron por medio del test de scratch. Para la medición se construyó un dispositivo especial que adaptado a un durómetro permitió medir cargas crecientes de 5 gr en 5 gr. Se discuten los resultados en función del calor de formación de los óxidos metálicos.
