För många hushåll har detta system inneburit problem. Hyresbostäder vill försöka åtgärdaproblemen genom att göra bättre och tydligare information i soprummen.

Sweden constitutes a leading nation concerning developing technological solutions for final disposal of spent nuclear fuel. The KBS-3 solution that is now to be implemented in Östhammar, northeast of Stockholm, has become a reference concept for the program for sustainable nuclear power within the EU. A common understanding is that the Swedish solution is the outcome of a political culture characterized by consensus making and cooperation. In this paper, we argue that such an understanding is misleading. On the contrary, we show that the Swedish solution is a product of severe conflicts between concerned groups (the antinuclear movement, environmental organizations, local resistance groups, oppositional scientists, journalists, and intellectuals) and the nuclear energy industry. In this paper, we investigate the efforts performed by concerned groups in Sweden and their effects on the KBS-3. The concept of concerned groups describes a dynamic process by which different types of groups transform depending on their negotiability and their participation (or not) in the configuration of technoscientific phenomena. Thus, we also analyze how the critique, actions and research of concerned groups underwent a qualitative transition related to the degree to which they participated in the scientific, technological and political configuration of the final depository for spent nuclear fuel: from radical deconstruction of technoscientific initiatives coming from the nuclear energy industry, to co-construction of the technical solution KBS-3, to a reconstructivist agenda, that is, the production of knowledge and technical solutions potentially usable by nuclear engineers and politicians beyond the research efforts of the nuclear energy industry.

Through the selection of six representative typical Swedish chairs from each era, I present manufacturing techniques and how the craftsmanship has affected the style of the chairs over time. My main source material is the objects themselves. I chose to analyze the constructions and what can distinguish them apart in techniques, material choices, aesthetics and design. The main part of my work has been to find out what are the most occurring damages and its causes. Most damages from renaissance to biedermeier can be linked to the mortise joint. Through interviews with experienced conservators and with my own experiences as a cabinet maker and conservator, I discuss the concept of the ultimate chair design in terms of stability. I have come to the conclusion that the most solid chair is the eight to twelve framed chairs from the Renaissance, but the chair must be adapted to the intended use.

I den här antologin har vi behandlat privatiseringar inom den svenska välfärdssektorn. Sedan slutet av 1980-talet har Sverige gått från ett nästan helt offentligt produktionssystem till ett system med en blandning av offentliga och privata utförare som konkurrerar med varandra. Valfrihet för brukarna har införts på flera områden. Vi har beskrivit hur framväxten av privat välfärdsproduktion sett ut och analyserat några centrala drivkrafter bakom denna utveckling.

Genom att analysera domstolsmaterialet från rättegången mot fildelningssiten The Pirat Bay, i relation till en idéhistorisk diskussion om äganderätt, har uppsatsen funnit att den liberala tanketraditionen och dess juridiska institutioner står inför en betydelseglidning vad gället begreppsparet ”Egendom” och ”Stöld”. Det har visat sig att Lockes naturtillstånd, varseblivningen av ”det oändliga” på jorden, har skiftat plats; från ”naturen” ut till ”cyberspace”, vilket har resulterat i att fildelningstekniken skapat en ny matematik som omöjliggör tidigare egendomsdefinition.

This thesis presents the development of doors for kitchen cupboards in Swedish city-flats from a cultural, technique and social science perspective.

The study consists of two main parts. The first is focused on describing and explaining the overall factors for the development of kitchen cupboard-door manufacture into an industrial and standardized manufacturing process.

The second part presents a summary of the develpment of kitchen cupboard-doors from the 1920’s to the 1980’s. It deals with materials, construction and appearance. The description refers to the first part and the overall factors which have influenced the development.

The attempt with this disposition has been to try to present that it should be able to put the development of doors for kitchen cupboards into a larger perspective. To see the door as the end-point marker in a story.

The result of this work shows that it is possible to place the door in a larger perspective and regard it as a conclusive time-marker. In between the time-limits for this thesis it is possible for the door to function as a start or an end in a story of the construction of welfare Sweden.

Is it really the only task of science and technology studies (S&TS) to observe, deconstruct and criticize? In February 1987 the Greek government announced an invitation to tender for the design and construction of the new Athens metro. Thirteen years later, in January 2000 the first two lines began operation. The construction of the metro consisted of numerous preliminary studies, different public organizations which dealt with its development and several controversies concerning its design. One of these controversies referred to the issue whether the metro would be accessible to disabled people or not.

Studying sociotechnical controversies, such as the implementation of accessibility provision in the new Athens Metro, often implicitly stipulates certain neutrality on the part of the researcher. But what happens to neutrality when the researcher becomes a part of the controversy or sympathizes with one of the opposing sides? The identity of the researcher also influences the choice of an epistemological standpoint. Moreover, the choice of conducting an investigation of the process of developing and applying disability facilities on the Athens metro is in its very nature political. By this I mean that the study contributes to an ongoing debate concerning issues of exclusion and discrimination against disabled people. As a result, the methodological framework of this project also includes elements of an emancipatory research paradigm. An emancipatory paradigm requires strong commitment from the researcher to the interests and needs of disabled people. In this study, disabled people were given an active methodological role. Doing research on disability implied that I undertook research that could be of practical benefit to the self-empowerment of disabled people and/or the appraisal of disabling barriers. At the same time, it would be almost impossible for me to dissociate myself from being viewed by disability organizations as an ally in their struggle. However, I am not a disabled person myself and my able-bodied position does not allow for adopting a disability standpoint in every respect. Several of my disabled informants who were representatives of disability organizations perceived my work as a means to express complaints regarding the oppression that people with disabilities face in Greece, to promote their claims and demands, and to make their voices heard. In other words, these informants attempted to deploy my work in their effort to achieve a better hearing for their claims. This does not signify the capturing of my research since it constitutes a conscious methodological choice that I made in accordance with the emancipatory research paradigm. What I am advocating is more democratic participation in the processes that contribute to the configuration of the built environment and more policy initiatives for reducing disabilities.

A household’s energy behaviour consists of several processes and interactions as well as it involve the decisions and functions of several entities. A household constitutes a technical infrastructure where people live, meet, and shape their identities in different ways. This study aims to open the black box energy behaviour and highlight different aspects and entities that influence and shape the way households use energy sources. A household’s energy behaviour is defined by different material and socio-economic objectives/aspects. These objectives often conflict with each other in terms of economic resources, political prioritisations, and technical potentials. For example, the implementation of environmental-friendly provisions in a household implies often costs and distribution of priorities. The most suitable method for highlighting and conceptualising the relationship between energy behaviour and different actors’ engagement is to study the development and construction of infrastructures (such as houses, apartment buildings etc), since infrastructures comprise the complexity of the modern society.

The aim of this study is to reconstruct and follow the process of designing and implementing a construction project, namely Colonia – the new student dorms at the university of Linköping, through the lenses of household’s energy behaviour. Particularly, we aim to investigate how the interaction among different entities, such as constructors, owners, users, ventilators, heaters, climate etc, co-produces energy behavior in the context of residential student buildings and standardizes ways of construction as well as patterns of consumption. In doing so, we intend to reconstruct the households’ everyday experiences/patterns as well as to follow construction and owning practices: How does a household conceptualize its own energy use? What kind of actors influences energy use? How material and natural aspects affect the construction process and the production of behavioural patterns of energy use? How do experts and constructors interact with the built environment? What negotiations take place between actors in the process of configuring a specific construction project regarding energy use and how these negotiations materialize in the context of the project, in terms of efficient energy behaviour/use?

The study treats energy behavior as a hybrid collective (Callon & Law, 1995. ”Agency and the Hybrid Collectif”). Our aim is to follow and reconstruct relations between the components of the collectif. It is the relations and their heterogeneity that are important in this context. The project will attempt to illustrate how everyday choices, experiences and interactions with other actors regarding the energy equipment of a household define the energy identity and behaviour of its members. In other words, to study the processes through which the design and construction of a house regarding electricity, heat, ventilation, water, drain system etc provides evidence concerning the materialisation of energy patterns within a household on an everyday basis.

In particular, we aim to investigate how the interactions between entities such as the builders, landlords, users, ventilators, heaters, climate and so forth co-perform energy behaviour in the setting of residential student buildings. Inspired by the actor-network theory, the study treats energy behaviour as a hybrid collectif. It is the relations and their heterogeneity that are important in this approach. The project studies how heterogeneous relations among everyday practices, human experiences and interactions with nonhumans enact energy use patterns.

By using Critical Future Studies combined with a historical contextualization of technology debates, I discuss in this article how a normalization process can be discerned in Swedish popular press reporting on robots and AI in recent years.

From being contested, robots andAI have become part of everyday life. Robots and AI are here for better or worse and we must establish a relation to this technology, handle the risks, and domesticate it. This obscures the societal challenges we face with the developments in robotics and AI, and future developments are conceived as predestined.

This report presents the graduation project worth 10 points that I completed in the Furniture Design Program at Carl Malmsten CTD, spring 2006. The purpose of this report is to describe and explain the process of this graduation project and the design of the products that has

shaped the form of my concept.

The report is based on the documentation from the process. I have choosen to present my

work for this report in four chapters. The first and opening chapter describes the background of the project, the second one shows the research, using pictures, and the concept for the

project. The third, is about the design and sketching process, while the last one presents the prototyping. The final part is an analysis of the result and some comments on the work and the

products.

The reason I chose this as my graduation project was beacuse I was curious about outdoor furniture and the possible functions they can have. These types of furniture will not go out of date, as long as the weather permits, as we will always spend time outdoors and will always have a need for products in this environment. I was looking to provide something new in this area, without losing the inherent properties to outdoor furniture.

I presented these ideas for Berga Form AB, because my understanding was that they, just like me, value quality and care for details. Furthermore, they produce the majority of their

products in Java, Indonesia. I was in this area when I contacted Berga Form the first time. I did a 3 months internship in Singapore/Java the autum semester of 2006, when I thought up the idea for my graduation project.

The result if this project is a table and a bench for outdoor environments. The material is cast aluminum and solid Ash tree. This product has a function that will ease transport for Berga Form and winter storage for the customer. The furniture posesses an aesthetic that is exclusive and stylish to match Berga Form´s present collection.

The design concept for this graduation project is;

“black & white, dazzling patterning, inspired by Jugend and Vector aesthetically and solid wood reserved shapes”.

This licentiate’s thesis is concerned with how genetics is depicted and used in fictional stories. From a perspective that combines science and technology studies with cultural studies, it analyses narratives that deal with, or contain images of, genetics and gene technology. The empirical material consists of four narratives, two movies and two novels: Andrew Niccol’s film Gattaca (1997), Ang Lee’s film Hulk (2003), Margaret Atwood’s novel Oryx and Crake (2003), and P.C. Jersild’s Swedish novel Geniernas återkomst ("Return of the Geniuses", 1987). The thesis has two main parts, where the first part introduces theories and perspectives on biology and narrative, whereas the second part presents the four analyses of fictional narratives.

The first part is divided into two sections. Section one is concerned with biology (primarily molecular biology), ideals of objectivity, and the relation¬ship between science and technology. I argue for a perspective where science and technology are intimately interwoven, especially in the case of the “new biology”. This section defines the concepts of genetics and gene technology, a definition that relies more on how the concept of gene is used in the analysed narratives than the scientific discipline of genetics. Then follows in the second section a discussion of narration and fiction, two cen¬tral concepts in this thesis. With the aid of structuralist literary studies, the process of narrative production and meaning making is described, and an argument is made for viewing fiction as a quality of narratives rather than a genre of its own.

Part two is also made up of two main sections. In the first of these, the four narratives are analysed separately. The narratives are viewed as examples of different perspectives on fictitious genetics: Gattaca is analysed as an exam¬ple of a genetically governed society, Hulk as a genetically manipulated individual, Oryx and Crake exemplifies the genetic apocalypse, and Genier¬nas återkomst depicts a future society where genetics has been out¬dated, banned and expelled. The second part analyses genetics and gene technology as narrative devices. Here, the four narratives are no longer separated. In¬stead, they are compared and used to exemplify a number of sometimes contradictory narrative uses of genetics and gene technology. The narratives make use of both public understandings of science and technology and the complexity of modern biology and biotechnology to balance credibility and the fantastic. Six main functions of genetics are identified in the narratives, some of wich are functions of negotiation – like the negotiations between the credible and the incredible, between threat and opportunity, between control and the loss of control, between micro and macro, and between nature and technology. Other functions are based upon genetics and gene technology being described – and understood – as both new and having potentially pro¬found consequences for society and human¬kind. In the end, genetics in fic¬tion turns out to have very little to do with genetics and gene technology as scientific discourses. Instead these sciences seem to be used because of their complexity and aura of both “cutting-edge” sciences and “code of life”, in order to negotiate a number of narrative problems and oppositions.

The aim of this article is to identify a technical domain of knowledge in the curriculum of the Swedish elementary school and views on elementary school technology of two interest groups – school teachers and engineers. Gradually during the early to mid-1920s there was increased technical content in the Swedish elementary school, if we look at the new curriculum, in-service education and stakeholders’ views. The main reasons for this were, first of all, that the first decades of the twentieth century witnessed industrial growth with accompanying technification of large parts of society including the school. Second, the curriculum of 1919 had a broader technical content than earlier curricula, and thus mirrored the societal changes. Third, vocational secondary schools led to new requirements in respect of elementary technology education. Representatives of the Government were prime movers in enhancing the significance of technology in school together with teachers, while engineers generally showed little interest.
