Stigar och spår på en vildvuxen allmänning2007In: Kulturstudier i Sverige / [ed] Bodil Axelsson, Johan Fornäs, Lund: Studentltteratur , 2007, 1, p. 365-384Chapter in book (Other academic)
    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

Late modern reflexions: Festschrift for Johan Fornäs is an anthology of more than twenty essays dedicated to Johan Fornäs on his 60th birthday 7th of mars 2012. Several of the articles included take Johan Fornäs’ books as their starting point, while others are related, in different ways, to his wide and diverse interests. The book is divided into four thematic parts, dealing with "Theoretical Practices", “Medial Practices”. “Aesthetic Practices” and “Literary Practices”. Articles included under ”Theoretical Practices” discuss different aspects of hermenutics, culturalization, and cultural capital. ”Medial Practices” offers studies of contemporary media phenomena, relating them to questions of democracy and politics.”Aesthetic Practices” include contributions that discuss the function of different cultural practices in the public sphere. The last section, ”Literary Practices”, takes a closer look at both select literary texts and the discourses surrounding them. Most of the Articles are written in Swedish, with the exception of three articles in English.

Entering Two Minefields: Research for Policy-Making and the Creation of New History Museums in Europe2012Conference proceedings (editor) (Refereed)
    Abstract [en]

All over Europe, the founding of new history museums brings to the fore questions as to which stories should be told, which objects should be put on display, for what audiences and with what results and future possibilities. This collection of papers brings together reflections on the nature and roles of history museums on a general level with reports from case studies in Brussels, Berlin, Warsaw and Paris. The cases dwell on the challenges and negotiations of collections, communities and citizenship that arise when polities create new museums. How to balance political and intellectual concerns? The report starts out with the intersection between policy and research, including interventions from the European Commission and reflections on the balancing acts involved in producing research with policy relevance. The conference and the report were co-produced by EuNaMus and the House of European History.

The conference proceedings are produced within the three-year research programme EuNaMus – European National Museums: Identity Politics, the Uses of the Past and the European Citizen, coordinated at Tema Q at Linköping University (www.eunamus.eu). EuNaMus explores the creation and power of the heritage created and presented by European national museums to the world, Europe and its states, as an unsurpassable institution in contemporary society. National museums are defined and explored as processes of institutionalized negotiations where material collections and displays make claims and are recognized as articulating and representing national values and realities. Questions asked in the project are why, by whom, when, with what material, with what result and future possibilities are this museums shaped.

Skärningspunkter och glapp i länkat, delat och nätverkat kulturarv2017Report (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

Intersections and gaps in linked, shared and networked heritage One of the key questions archives, libraries and museums face today is how to deal with blurring boundaries between different institutions as well as between institutions and people’s everyday life as digital environments have become increasingly important for how people, material culture and heritage practices links. This project studies current intersections and gaps between heritage authorities and political cultural identity work among people in place-based communities as well as among those who are united by disability, sexuality and gender expression, ethnicity or religion.

    Abstract [en]

Visual culture continues to be seen as peripheral to journalism, despite the centrality of image flows and visual technologies in both the private and public spheres of contemporary media.  This chapter addresses this lacuna, first by elaborating central concepts and theoretical tents from the field of visual culture, and then by suggesting how they can contribute to a better understanding of the cultures of journalism, viewed both historically and in the present media environment

Conditions for Creative Artists in Europe: report from the EU presidency seminar in Visby, Sweden, 30 March - 1 April 20012001Collection (editor) (Other academic)
    Abstract [en]

As we now approach the end of the Swedish Presidency, we are pleased to present the final and printed report of the Visby meeting on “Conditions for Creative Artists in Europe”, which took place from 30th March to 1st April 2001.

The seminar had some 150 participants from almost thirty European countries. The majority of participants were creative artists active in the fields of literature, visual arts and composition.

It is our impression that the meeting was a great success. Many have expressed their appreciation. The most important aspect of the meeting was perhaps the fact that it brought together artists (or their representatives), experts and ministerial officials in this European context. Consequently, the issues discussed were concrete and of crucial interest to those primarily concerned. Another important trait was, of course, that representatives of the candidate countries took part on equal terms. This enrichened the seminar considerably and gave it a progressive atmosphere. Last but not least, the meeting gave testimony, not only to the importance of creative artists in Europe but more specifically to how poorly they are rewarded for their creative work. Hence, a lot remains to be done in this area.

    Abstract [en]

Senmoderna reflexioner.

Late modern reflexions: Festschrift for Johan Fornäs is an anthology of more than twenty essays dedicated to Johan Fornäs on his 60th birthday 7th of mars 2012. Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [sv]

    Abstract [en]

About a hundred years ago occupational and environmental health became an increasingly urgent topic in Western societies. Today’s perceptions and organisation for the prevention and treatment of occupational health problems are to a great extent historical products of a specific regime of work during the classical industrial era. For several reasons occupational health and safety became a field of its own, involving medical and technical expertise, politicians, public administrations, trade unions and employers associations. Its roots, however, are also to be found in the general history of public health. In the context of the evolving welfare state the two fields of occupational and of public health have developed as overlapping, though separately organised, social and scientific concerns. The affinity of the histories of the two fields was the main reason for organising “The 2 nd International Conference on the History of Occupational Health and Environmental Prevention” and “The 4 th International Conference of the International Network for the History of Public Health” as a joint effort with a view toward casting light on their relationship and to promote collaboration between the two. The conference under the title Occupational Health and Public Health: Lessons from the Past – Challenges for the Future took place in the old industrial city of Norrköping in southern Sweden in September 2001. It was organised by the Swedish National Institute for Working Life (NIWL) in co-operation with the Clinica del Lavoro Luigi Devoto, Italy, the ICOH Scientific Committee on the History of Prevention of Occupational and Environmental Diseases, the International Network for the History of Occupational and Environmental Prevention (IHOEP), International Network for the History of Public Health (INHPH), The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Prevention (ISPESL), Italy, the National Institute of Public Health, Sweden, the Wellcome Trust and the Swedish Council for Work Life and Social Research.
