    Abstract [en]

    Digit serial arithmetics uses a number of parallel bits in each digit. To compare performance and power consumption relative the number of bits, the Department of Electric Engineering (ISY) needed a layout generator to generate layout for a digit serial two-port adaptor. The layout should be done in 0.18 micrometer process. The number of bits of the incoming data and the number of bits of the coefficient should be variable. Great concern was put in the planning of the layout to make the generation of the adaptor work well independent of the parameters. Code was written to connect the layout instances and to simplify the adaptor.

    Multiplikatorer används ofta som ett byggblock vid konstruktion av kretsar som digitala filter, FFT-processorer och aritmetiska enheter. Olika trädstrukturer används i"höghastighet"applikationer för multiplikatorer. En typ av träd,"overturned-stairs"(OS) som är ett adderarträd av första ordningen har uppvisat lika optimal prestanda med avseende på hastighet som Wallace-träd, vid 18 eller färre ingångar. I moderna integrerade kretsar, ger ledningar och kopplingar upphov till fördröjningar och parasitiska laster. I en jämförelse mellan Wallace-träd, och OS1-träd har det sistnämda kortare och mindre komplicerad ledningsdragningar och är därför mer ändamålsenlig för VLSI implementationer.

    Abstract [en]

    Filtrets funktion efter implementeringen var samma som modellens byggd i Simulink. A Richards’ structure wave digital filter has been implemented on an evaluation board in an FPGA. Samples can be sent to the filter and received from the filter using the serial port of a computer. The method used is that a modell of the filter has been created in Simulink. The filter has been modified with respect to scaling, noise and stability. VHDL for the filter has been generated in Simulink by using Xilinx blockset to build the modell. Also, VHDL has been constructed to be able to send samples between the filter and the memory on the evaluationboard. For communication between the memory on the evaluationboard and the computer, existing solutions have been used. The functionality of the filter after implementation was the same as in the modell built in Simulink.

    Abstract [en]

    This diploma work describes how an FPGA is designed to control a CAN controller. It describes the different tools used when working with Actel’s design tools and the sequence of work applied. It gives a short overview of a multiplexer, the CAN bus, an analog/digital-converter and some more information on the actual FPGA. It also brings up the design process of the FPGA, planning, coding, simulating, testing and finally programming the FPGA. The different parts implemented in the FPGA are a shift-register and two state- machines that are connected with each other. They work together to control the SJA1000 CAN controller made by Philips. They also receive data from the analog/digital-converter that they forward onwards to the CAN controller that forward the data on the CAN bus.

    Abstract [en]

    In this report a two-stage multirate IIR filter has been modelled and simulated in the Simulink. For its realization, the multirate structure for narrow-band and middle-band filters and the multirate structure for the wide- band filters have been used. In Simulink, the different filter elements within the two-stage multirate IIR filter have been modelled separately and subsequently they have been interconnected into the two-stage multirate structure. This overall two-stage multirate IIR filter makes use of half-band FIR filters to alter the sampling frequency, an IIR filter for the actual filtering and allpass filters to construct complementary filters. Once the two- stage multirate IIR filter has been designed, the scaling coefficients have been introduced into the filter structure. The same filter specifications as that used for the multirate IIR filter designing were also used for the singlerate IIR filter modelling. Simulink was used for the simulation of the singlerate IIR filter, as well. When designed, the singlerate IIR filter has been used as a reference filter for the determination of the roundoff noise and the data word length of the multirate IIR filter. One aspect found is that the roundoff noise of the multirate IIR filter is slightly larger than that obtained by a singlerate IIR filter.

    Abstract [en]

    The goal of this project was to implement and compare Invere Discrete Cosine Transform using three methods i.e. by bit parallel, digit serial and bit serial. This application describes a one dimensional Discrete Cosine Transform by bit prallel method and has been implemented by 0.35 ìm technology. When implementing a design, there are several considerations like word length etc. were taken into account. The code was implemented using WHDL and some of the calculations were done in MATLAB. The VHDL code was the synthesized using Design Analyzer of Synopsis; power was calculated and the results were compared.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose with the report is to show that it is possible to design a class-D amplifier, using a programmable FPGA mounted on a developing card from Xess and a H-bridge. The FPGA was programmed in VHDL which is the language the software from Xilinx use to implement a logical function into the FPGA The logical function corresponds to a modeling of the music signal and the modeling can be described as a comparator which compare the music signal with a triangle wave and as a out signal produce a pulse width modulated (PWM) signal. The report is also a review and evaluating of two different modulating technologies, AD- modeling and BD-modeling. A detailed part about how the H-bridge was designed and how it works. The result of this project is a working audio amplifier to a significant lower price than the products in todays market.

    Abstract [en]

    The aim of this report is to examine if existing Digital Rights Management systems are useful and satisfying to the consumer, copyright owner and distributor. If not, is it possible to design a useful and satisfying Digital Rights Management system?

    During the past few years, copyright owners of music, movies and other media have seen how piracy has increased with the introduction of affordable broadband technology. Record and movie corporations have pushed for a solution to piracy and one of them is Digital Rights Management. They want their customers to pay for and then enjoy the digital media but at the same time protect the rights of the copyright owner. That is what Digital Rights Management is all about; protect the copyright owner while allowing the consumer to enjoy their digital media. Digital Rights Management can restrict the users rights to copy and transfer the contents to other devices as well as restrict the number of times a user is allowed to use the media.

    The present DRM systems are focusing on preventing digital media from being freely distributed by limiting the ability to copy or move the media. This puts limitations on fair use such as making personal copies of music. Copyright owners and distributors want more consumers to discover DRM, but so far, the consumers have shown little interest.

    This report is based on various resources on the Internet such as white papers on Digital Rights Management, our own experimentation and on Microsoft Media Rights Management SDK documentation.

    We do not believe it is possible to design a DRM system that consumers, copyright owners and distributors are satisfied with. It is not possible to combine the demands of copyright owners and the consumers’ claims of fair use.

    Att ett grafikkort ska behandla data och sen generera en bild på en skärm är en ganska logisk funktion för ett grafikkort. Vad som har gjorts här är att alla grundläggande funktioner för grafikkortet har tagits bort, detta för att ingen behandling ska göras. Detta har gjorts för att kunna låta data passera genom kortet med så hög hastighet som möjligt. Att låta data gå genom kortet var det första steget. Efter det skulle förhoppningsvis ett stabilt system ha uppnåtts där vi kunde göra överföringen av data snabbare. Tyvärr blev det inte tillräckligt stabilt och vår slutsats är att man inte kan använda detta kort på det här sättet.

    För att kunna genomföra detta programmerades FPGA:n med VHDL-kodning. Innan VHDL programmeringen så studerades manualen för kortet för att veta hur de olika registrena på kortet skulle ställas in.

    För att testa programmering konstruerades en räknare som genererade en trekantsvåg på ett inkopplat oscilloskop.

    Den ursprungliga uppgiften klarades av. Detta var att skicka igenom data utan den skulle behandlas.

    Abstract [en]

    Finite state machines are common components in digital designs. A common type of finite state machine is a counter. Counters are often quite expensive to implement, with respect to the number of gates. To reduce this cost, a PRBS (Pseudo Random Binary Sequence) can be used. It is constructed of a register where a xor - operation is performed between two positions, which depend on the length of the register. The result from this operation is then shifted back into the register yielding a random-like sequence. The numbers are not random, but can always be predicted. In this thesis work finite state machine using PRBS are designed in MatLab. Three different programs have been written to calculate the costs for implementation of a PRBS.

    Abstract [en]

    To speed up the addition of numbers, which is a vital part of signal processing there are different types of algorithms. One of those algorithms is the Brent Kung-adder, which has a time delay proportional to log2(N).

    In the report comparison of different adders has been done, taking into account grind-depth which is proportional to the propagation time. A module generator for the Brent Kung adder is implemented with skill-code in the program Cadence. The module generator can generate adders of infinite word length and is independent of the technology used. The physical limitations of Brent Kung adders are being studied and proposals for improvements are given in the report.

    Abstract [en]

    One important issue faced by companies is to secure their information and resources from intrusions. For accessing a resource almost every system uses the approach of assigning a unique username and a password to all legitimate users. This approach has a major drawback. If an intruder gets the above information then he can become a big threat for the company and its resources. To strengthen the computer security there are several biometric methods for identity verification which are based on the human body’s unique characteristics and behavior including fingerprints, face recognition, retina scan and signatures. However most of these techniques are expensive and requires the installation of additional hardware.

    This thesis focuses on keystroke dynamics as an identity verifier, which are based on the user’s unique habitual typing rhythm. This technique is not just looking for what the user types but also how he types. This method does not require additional hardware to be installed and are therefore rather inexpensive to implement. This thesis will discuss how identity verification through keystroke characteristics can be made, what have been done in this area and give advantages and disadvantages of the technique.

    Abstract [en]

    Previous implementations of FIFO-architectures has often been asynchronous FIFO-constructions. This method has some limitations in high speed systems. Instead synchronous FIFOs has more and more replaced asynchronous FIFOs.

    The synchronous architecture has the same features as the asynchronous but with advantages such as higher speed and simplified interface.

    In the report different types of FIFO-constructions has been studied and comparison between synchronous and asynchronous architectures has been done. The memory unit developed by ISY decided which FIFO-architecture that were best suited for the implementation.

    The implemented FIFO-memory arrange in- and outdataflow to a single-port SRAM memory containing 256 words with 16 bits per word.

    Abstract [en]

    Heat, clock scew and frequency optimization are some of the problems a semiconductor designer must face. By splitting a synchrounous block into multiple pieces which comunicates asynchronously with eachother and provide them with independent clocks, these problems may be reduced.

    GALS (Global Asynchronous Local Synchronous) is a wrapper that wraps a synchronous block and provides it with a clock. Multiple GALS-elements will make the whole system. The clockfrequency may be independently adjusted between each block. The clocks may be started and halted independantly depending on the workload.

    Describing the system in a hardware language as VHDL, and implement it into an FPGA (Field Programmable Grid Array), makes the development of applications fast and cheap.

    Abstract [en]

    This thesis describes the function and construction of a modular event detector system. Event detectors are used for solder joint reliability testing using electronic monitoring for short duration resistance changes during accelerated ageing and temperature cycling. Collected data is mainly used to study solder joints long-term properties. The system has three different monitoring functions: transient resistance detection, statistics process monitoring and periodic monitoring. In its present performance a total number of 384 channels can be monitored continuously. However the system can be expanded in steps of 96 channels, limited only by the capacity of the computers PCI-bus. The system is built around a PC equipped with the LabVIEW 6.1 programming environment and data acquisition cards from National Instruments. The circuit boards to be monitored are connected via adapter electronics. In the case of the superior electronic-kits project, four groups of 24 circuit boards are connected to the adapter electronics. To minimise the influence of environmental noise shielded and, where possible, twined cables are used.

    Today, wireless communications is used more then ever before. Wired systems are replaced with wireless versions. New methods and transmission standards are developed and tested. The purpose of this thesis is development of a flexible high-performance System Test Platformfor test of the SoCTRix Wireless LAN Transceiver.

    The result is a Xilinx Virtex-II FPGA based System Test Platform board with CardBus PC Card interface to a computer. The hardware achieved has the following features:

    - 8-layer PCB

    - PCMCIA CardBus PC Card interface, enabling 133 MB/s data throughput

    - 1M Gate Virtex-II FPGA with reprogrammable configuration memory

    - Debugging via LEDs and Logic Analyzer connectors

    - 2x SPI EEPROM

    - 40 MHz system clock

    - Easy connection of two daughter-boards

    Specially designed for wireless transmitter development, can also be used for other computer related highperformance applications.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this thesis was to implement a serial communication port model for a digital signal processor. It is a behavioral model, developed using VHDL, that is instruction comparisable to the Motorola digital signal processor DSP 56002. It supports five different data transfer modes and provides a programmable baud rate generator.

    This report starts out by giving a description of the external port, port C, the pin control logic and general purpose functionality. Then a more detailed description of the three pin dedicated serial communication interface is presented, the different operating modes and the baud rate generator are described.

    Abstract [en]

    The concept of remote controlling electrical devices is not new; people of today are used to being able to control their household electronic items without making an effort to walk up to the device.

    In this thesis the aim is to use Bluetooth radio signals instead of the traditional infrared light to achieve the remote control functions. As a test application a Sony Compact Disc player is modified in order to be radio controlled with a standard Ericsson T39 mobile phone used as a remote. Since the test application is rather simple without any special requirements the development of a specific radio communication system has not been considered. Instead available pre-manufactured devices were examined. A Bluetooth evaluation kit was purchased and the test project consisted of the goal of linking the evaluation board to the CD player with an AVR microcontroller and getting the whole system to communicate with the mobile phone.

    Abstract [en]

    Most of the industrial plants has a control center where is installed a SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) application. At the moment, it exists a great offer of acquisition, supervision and control of software and the evolution of this software follows a triple tendency: intercommunication between applications, standardization of the communications with the field devices and adoption of the communication surroundings. The report is divided in two parts: In the first the reader can learn the basic ideas of SCADA system and find the most important SCADA software available today. InTouch 7.1 and WinCC have been studied in more depth because they are the most successful software. In the second part is described the visualization of a real life process, it is the visualization of a toy car factory allocated in Linköping?s University and how interconnected the visualization process with the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller). In the report also are described the basic components needed to realize the visualization of any process involving PLCs.

    Abstract [en]

    IEEE 802.11 [1]is the standard that has emerged as a prevailing technology for the wireless local area networks. It can be considered the wireless version of Ethernet, which supports best-effortservice. IEEE is developing a new standard called 802.11e to be able to provide quality of service (QoS) in WLANs. Two possible methods have been proposed in [3]in order to improve the performance of service differentiation in the MAC layer. They are called PCWA (Practical Contention Window Adjustment) and AIPM (Adaptive Initiative Polling Machine). In this thesis, I will analyse both methods and propose new ideas to improve their performance, simulating the ideas concerning PCWA. Simulations show better general performance, especially for highest priorities flows, although the behaviour of the lowest priority one is reduced.

    Abstract [en]

    Wireless communication is being developed in the last years day by day, there are several standards that talks about it. We are going to go through the IEEE standard 802.11 which talks about wireless LAN Medium Access Control (MAC) and Physical Layer (PHY) Specifications. Looking this more carefully we will study MAC specifications and its environment.

    The work that ISY department at Institute of Technology of Linkoping University has proposed is to design a MAC sublayer implementation for WLANs using C language programming and testing it with the test environment called “test bench”. This test bench will simulate LLC sublayer and PHY layer, in this way, our MAC implementation will has to interact with it. Therefore we will simulate a wireless network where we are going to have a short number of stations and we are going to look at carefully the MAC sublayer response in an ad hoc network.

    Abstract [sv]

    Effektiv hantering av den växande mängden data i dagens IT-samhälle är ett ständigt återkommande problem. Lösningar som innebär att information med krav till snabb åtkomst dubbellagras på flera olika ställen, är bara en av anledningarna till nytänkandet "katalogtjänster''. Eftersom det länge inte funnits några fasta standarder för ett sådant protokoll har olika företag utvecklat sina egna lösningar. Detta innebär naturligt att det blir problem när man vill få olika katalogtjänster utvecklade för olika syften att samarbeta. Protokollet som är tänkt att lösa detta är LDAP (Lightweight directory Access Protocol).

    Detta arbete behandlar hur man bygger ett centraliserat autentiseringssystem med hjälp av LDAP. Fördelarna med LDAP framför traditionella metoder som NIS/NIS+ diskuteras, samt hur man kan knyta ihop ett nätverk med både Windows- och Linuxdatorer, där informationen om användare och rättigheter finns lagrade centralt i en LDAP-baserad katalogtjänst.

    Generella säkerhetsbegrepp kring autentisering tas upp, samt vad det egentligen är man behöver skydda vid autentisering och kommunikation via ett nätverk.

    Abstract [en]

    The purpose of this thesis was to find a way of measuring the sensitivity of component values for parameterized wave active filters. Two different approaches were made, but only one was finished.

    The first approach is about the possibility of making a wave active filter with standard components on a printed circuit board. This did not work though, because of a scarce market of possible components. The compo-nents existing today have too high parasite capacitances. These unwanted parasites are so large in value that they could destroy the functionality and it was therefore not worth continuing the attempt. The components that were investigated as possible on the board were ladder networks and digitally controlled potentiometers. The main part of the studies for the first attempt was to read data sheets from different electronic companies trying to find possible components.

    Instead a new approach was made with the purpose of investigating the possibility of making a wave active filter as an integrated circuit. In this report a pilot study for such an attempt is presented. To make it possible to continue work where these studies end, the work has been carefully explained. I have also included the computer programs I have made in the appendix of the report.

    Abstract [en]

    This report is about a Thesis for Degree of Bachelor of Science at Linköping University. It describes design of equipment which makes it possible to measure signal and noise quality during data transmission via Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line, ADSL. The measuring instrument is HP 4934A Transmission Impairment Measuring Set. The equipment was supposed to be used for testing of ADSL systems within Solectron Sweden AB. In fact, the equipment stands for virtual Plain Old Telephone Service, POTS. That is why it simulates all three states that may come up. The states are following:"on hook", ringing,"off hook"(speech transmission). There is a control unit in the design. It changes between different circuit connections to get one of the states. You have to use a computer for control of the equipment. The computer commands are sent to equipment via its serial port via RS232 to the control unit. The equipment is driven with 48 Vdc.

    This report describes a system for verification of fingerprints against a previous created template. It describes how and why a fingerprint image must be processed before it can be used to either identify or verify a person. The method is based on special features of a fingerprint, called minutiae points. The whole process from image to matching is described, every step in the process with image enhancement, binarization, thinning and how to find the minutiae points. Also what false minutiae points are, how they arise, why they deteriorate the result, and how to handle them, is discussed.

    Finally a test of the system with a large number of fingerprints is presented, to see how good the system is according to security and reliability about not accepting prints from other fingers or reject the fingerprints, which are from the same finger as the template. Many proposals about how the performance and the security of the system can be improved are also presented.

    Abstract [en]

    In this report a comparison is made between four frequently encountered resampling algorithms for particle filters. A theoretical framework is introduced to be able to understand and explain the differences between the resampling algorithms. This facilitates a comparison of the algorithms based on resampling quality and on computational complexity. Using extensive Monte Carlo simulations the theoretical results are verified. It is found that systematic resampling is favourable, both in resampling quality and computational complexity.

    Abstract [en]

    There can be several reasons to use wireless signal transmission in a industry. Its often used in places where there is very hard ore impossible to use a cable. In this case it’s a basin that’s used for water cleaning that should be controlled wireless. The basin has a cylinder form and all the units that shouldbe controlled rotates in the basin. This makes it hard to use a cable. If a cable should be used the transmission between the rotating units and the control system needs to be connected with a drag contact that can lead to problems in the signal transfer. Now they want to try out the technology fore wireless transmission of the control signals. Today the basin is controlled by old electromechanically equipment that is mounted on the basin, but for better control and supervision of the basin its going to be controlled from a modern control system.

    Abstract [en]

    Normally the operational amplifier is used as a component in active filter design. The goal for future components in filter design is large bandwith and the use of low supply voltages. The use of current-mode instead of voltage-mode circuits gets a step closer to the required performance. A component that use current as the signal conveying part is the current conveyor. In this report a comparative study between two current conveyor structures of second generation (CCII) is performed. The most suited is later implemented and simulated using the CMOS process AMS.C035. The component is also tested in a continuous-time elliptic low-pass filter of leapfrog type. The filter does not behave as it should. However, better performance can be obtained by redesigning the current conveyor.

    Abstract [en]

    Bofors Defence AB is in the process of updating and documenting the company’s routines for information security. The object is to be certified according to the standard ISO 17799-1 during 2003. Among other things updating means that the company will be provided with contingency plans who should insure a reliable IT-environment. Basically it is all about protecting the company’s information related systems, ensure contingency in the daily work and maintaining the trust of the market and the authorities. The aim of the Thesis was to apply existing methods in the making of contingency plans. The plans are focused on the information related systems that are critical to the company and takes in consideration the threats, which might stop them from operating as desired. The contingency plans cover a limited numberof systems, which for example handle e-mail and order intake. The plans comprise the servers and platforms (for example operating systems), which are essential to the systems. The Thesis is focused on the aspect of availability. The aspects of confidentiality (for example fire walls) and integrity (for example access restrictions) are handled by the company’s own personnel. To ensure contingency is only a minor part of the work that needs to bee done before a company can be certified according to ISO 7799-1. This Thesis needs complementary additions before it can be incorporated in the documentation presented to the accreditation agency. However the result is in line with the company’s commission.

    Abstract [en]

    This report contains information how to establish a link between a computer and a memory through the serialport of a computer. The RS232 protocol is used to establish this link. To handle the memory and the communication with the computer a FPGA has been programmed. The data is in Intel hex8 format. A program for Windows 98 were also created. The program opens a file and reads characters from it. The charcters are translated into integers which are sent to the serialport. The program can also store data, recieved from the serialport, to a file.

    Abstract [en]

    A part of an audio analyzer has been developed and implemented as an application in the hardware description language VHDL. This part has later been programmed into a PLD device on a circuit board used for audio tests on mobile telephones at Flextronics. The application converts data, making it possible to send information between the telephone and different measuring instruments. The application consists of two older applications. One of them has been fully implemented. What is left in the other part is to find the cause why it is sending wrong data as unwanted noise. The work had to be stopped when deadline was reached.

    Abstract [en]

    Reduced power consumption have become more and more of interest as more products are becoming mobile. In the article Implementation of Linear Feedback Shift Registers for Low Power Applications, Menahem Lowy describes a method of designing randombit-generators. In this project, six random bit-generators have been designed in VHDL. Two of these are based on Lowy’s method, and two are parallel variants of these. In addition, a serial feedback shift register and a parallel variant of it, have been designed for comparison. These randombit- generators have then been simulated with respect to the power consumption. It turnes out that the best randombit-generator, considering the effect per bit, is the parallel variant of the feedback shift register.

    The task of this project was to build an computer processing system for pressureregulation, in which the pressure loss over the open hydrolicvalve should be kept as low as possible. By using an cross connected proportional directional valve the valve problem could be solved. The control- and regulationproblem for the pressureregulation system was solved by using the DAQ- card NI6035E from National Instruments and the computerprogram Automatic Pressure Control 1.0 which has been software developed and written in Visual Basic. The final result showed that correct processvarible was obtained in 0,5 seconds, when the setpoint was changed in the testarea 0 - 2,5 MPa.

    The aim of this thesis is to create a program that automatically generates matched resistors. By using such resistors the performance of integrated circuits can be improved.

    The program can generate two or more matched resistors. With a set of input parameters the user is able to generate a customized matched resistor.

    The project has been completed and the program has been used to generate matched resistors for two bigger layouts at the department of Electrical Engineering.

    Telia Telesvar is an automatic anwering machine that is provided in your stationary telephone at home. The drawback of this is that you cannot see if anyone has called you.

    This report describes how a terminal for Telias Telesvar could be designed. Telesvar terminal will show in a display if anyone called you and show the incoming number. It will also play the spoken message in a built in speaker.

    The design is based on some key components, LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and DTMF (Dual Tone Multiple Frequency) and PIC16F877 microcontroller. These components are also described in the report.

    Abstract [en]

    This report is the basis for a Bachelor of Science thesis in engineering done at Volvo Powertrain in Gothenburg. The problem consisted of investigating a circuit with a PWM-controlled MOSFET driving a DC-motor.

    The problem was to investigate what caused the circuit to break the transistor. Finally an improvement of the circuit is designed making the MOSFET withstand the stressful conditions exposed to.

    An overall description of the problems with switching an inductive load using a MOSFET as switch is done. Some methods to protect the MOSFET from failure are also discussed. Finally a discussion is held to suggest what broke the MOSFET, and an improved design is proposed.

    An automatic control system for calibration of pressure indicators has been constructed. This control system can be used as a complement to the calibration system located at AerotechTelub, division MainPartner, in Linköping.

    The calibration system used today contains some not wanted pressure changes, which is compensated by hand today. The new system presented in this report automates the calibrating process and simplifies the calibration.

    Suitable hardware as motor, controls card and so on have been found and software in the form of Visual Basic program has been developed.

    The solution presented in this thesis satisfies the goals that have been presented in the goal description. To achieve a more complete automatic calibration system there are some further improvements yet to be done.

    Abstract [en]

    The use of microcontrollers and FPGAs is getting more and more wide spread in electronic designs. A recent developmenthas been to implement microcontrollers onboard the FPGA, there are a lot of benefits but also disadvantages with this. Often the microcontroler requires a lot of resources in the expensive FPGA. This is where PicoBlaze, a microcontroller provided by Xilinx, fits in. It is designed with one main object, keep it as small and powerful as possible.

    In this report PicoBlaze is evaluated and documented. Two implementations have been done. One smaller to show how to use PicoBlaze and one larger implementation of an Ethernet network interface. The function of the implementations have been verified on a experiment board utilizing a Virtex-II FPGA.

    The conclusion is that PicoBlaze is a very powerful microcontroller in comparison to the resources it uses on the FPGA. It uses only a little more than 80 slices on a Virtex II FPGA. This is its main advantage, the disadvantages of PicoBlaze is its limited program memory and the limited address space.

    In digital circuits both bit-parallel and bit-serial interfaces can occur. For example, an integrated digital circuit can use bit-parallel arithmetic circuits internally while its communication with other integrated circuits is bit serial. By using serial communication between IC:s the number of pins on the packages can be effectively limited.

    The purpose of this final project work was to create a layout generator for generation of a parametrizable serial/parallel converter and a parallel/serial converter. If a circuit uses both bit-serial and bit-parallel representation of data these are needed to convert between the formats.

    Abstract [en]

    A 5-bit MMIC serial to parallel converter has been designed in Gallium Arsenide. It is intended to be used together with a 5-bit True Time Delay (TTD) circuit, but it can easily be expanded into an arbitrary number of bits. The circuit has been designed with a logic style called DCFL and a 0.20 mm process (ED02AH) from OMMIC has been used to fabricate the circuit. The chip size of this 5-bit MMIC serial to parallel converter is 2.0x0.8 mm (including pads) and close to two hundred transistors are used. Due to the complexity of the transistor models the complete serial to parallel converter has not been fully simulated. However, the smaller building blocks like inverter, latch, etc. have been simulated successfully. These blocks were assembled into the complete circuit.

    When implementing syncronous filters with global clock nets, a substantial amount of energy is consumed in the clock net. Hence, it is interesting to reduce the size of the clock net, which in turn will reduce the total energy consumption. One way to acheive this, is to create a SIC (Structured Interfacing of Computational elements) since such a structure can be created without a global clock net. Our results show that a fifth order wavedigital filter with a sample rate of at least 10M samples/sec may be achieved

    Finnegan Lab System is a graphical computer program for learning how secret sharing works. With its focus on the algorithms and the data streams, the user does not have to consider machine-specific low-level details. It is highly modularised and is not restricted to secret sharing, but can easily be extended with new functions, such as building blocks for Feistel networks or signal processing.

    This thesis describes what secret sharing is, the development of a new lab system designed for secret sharing and how it can be used.

    There are several standards for wireless communication. People that are involved in computers and networking recognize names like Bluetooth, HiperLAN and IEEE 802.11. The last one was standardized in 1997 [2,6]and has begun to reach acceptance as a solid ground for wireless networking. A fundamental part of an IEEE 802.11 node is the Medium Access Controller, or MAC. It establishes and controls communication with other nodes, using a physical layer unit.

    The work has been carried out as final project at Linkopings Universitet, it has been about the improvement of the functions of MAC layer. I have developed some of the required functions that PUM uses to interact with the MAC layer. Because of that, I have implemented the Reception functions of MAC layer, having the possibility of using short control frames RTS/CTS to minimize collision.

    A standard cell library with low power consumption has been implemented in a 0.18 mm CMOS process. The cells have been designed and simulated in Cadence and a layout program. During the simulation of the full adders and the D flip flops the power consumption and time have been estimated and compared. The power supply voltage varied between 1 V and 1.8 V.

    Abstract [en]

    Our assignment was to perform and evaluate two calibration methods for reverberation chambers at Saab Avionics AB in Linköping. One method used by Saab Avionics and one according to the standard EUROCAE ED-14D chapter 20.6.

    The problem was solved by performing measurements according to the two methods and evaluating the data using MatLab.

    We managed to carry out the Saab Avionics calibration method in all of the measuring points required for the evaluation, but only half of the calibration according to EUROCAE ED-14D.

    From the measurements that we have performed we can draw the following conclusions: Both of the calibration methods state that the Saab Avionics reverberation chamber fulfils the requirements when it is unloaded.

    Both of the methods also state that the chamber does not fulfil the requirements when it is loaded.

    However the Saab Avionics calibration method does not give the same result in all of the measuring points that we compared when the chamber was loaded and it can therefore not be considered to be reliable in its present form. The calibration methods cannot be considered to be equal as they are today.

    In this bachelor thesis a comparison and evaluation of six different process visualization programs has been made. The purpose of the comparison is to find a suitable program for an experiment in control, held at Linköpings universitet, but also to get an overview of the market at the time this report was written.

    After the evaluation an implementation is carried out with the programs that were bought. RSLogix, InTouch, InSQL and SuiteVoyager, one programming tool, one visualization tool, a database-manager and a web-portal for interaction over the Internet.

    Abstract [en]

    In this thesis we have designed and developed a static ROM with low power consumption.Through examining different geometrical structures by splitting up the columns in the memory array we have, through computer simulation, found the best geometry with respect to power dissipation. In addition we have partitioned the memory array into several blocks with the optimal geometry, enabling us to switch off the memory blocks not beeing addressed and thereby lowering the power consumption even further. The column and block partitioning is controlled by the most significant address bits.
