Abstract [en]

Challenge

Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) is critical for ensuring the quality, integrity, reproducibility, and traceability of research, particularly in biomedical and bioengineering fields. With increasing demand for GLP-compliant research, integrating GLP principles into the education of biomedical and bioengineering students is essential. However, teaching regulatory topics can be challenging, as students often find them abstract and disengaging.

Novel Initiative

GLP has been incorporated into an existing course within the master’s program in Experimental and Medical Bioscience, an international program with students from diverse scientific backgrounds. This initiative introduces GLP through five key areas: organization and personnel, study planning and documentation, facilities and equipment, data collection, and quality assurance. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on training, particularly in writing Standard Operating Procedures and ensuring data integrity, preparing students for both academic and industrial research environments.

Reflection

This approach highlights the importance of incorporating regulatory concepts in an interactive and engaging manner. By integrating GLP into practical coursework, students gain a deeper appreciation for its role in ensuring research quality. The initiative also underscores the need for creative educational strategies to enhance student engagement and prepare them for future careers in academia and industry. Embedding GLP in education strengthens research practices, reinforcing its significance in scientific advancement.
