Transgenderism has been modeled as a developmental mismatch be-tween sexed brain and sexed body with “genderdysphoria” as the manifestation of this body/braintension. Interrogating research that established the biological basis for gender binaries, we argue that this model of genderidentity is not strongly supported by the literature and suggest that feminist science approaches (e.g.,situated neuroscience) might lead to a much fuller picture of the biologies of trans individuals. We argue that studying whole bodies in the context of lived culturally-enmeshed lives reveal biologies and stories thatgo beyond classic binariessuch as: social/biological, female/male, cis/trans.
