The construction industry is one of the sectors that contributes the most to the current climate crisis and is therefore heavily regulated by global sustainability rules. This thesis focuses on the development of a sustainability checklist for the construction company Rejlers. The purpose of conducting this study is due to observed deficiencies in the construction industry's sustainability efforts, which are largely due to a lack of knowledge among both professionals and clients. Challenges identified include the difficulties in integrating sustainability tools into work methods and the ability to measure and monitor sustainability performance. The goal is to strengthen and organize sustainability efforts within the construction sector, with a particular focus on combining theoretical research and practical insights to streamline sustainability initiatives. The methodology used to conduct this thesis includes literature studies on the subject of sustainability, surveys, and analyses of a reference project to gather data and create a solid foundation for the checklist. The survey, reference project, and part of the literature study delved into the company Rejlers to map out the current state of their sustainability efforts and how they relate to global environmental goals such as Agenda 2030 and the Paris Agreement. By conducting this with a critical perspective, the validity, reliability, and generalizability of the method are ensured. The results show that this study and the developed sustainability checklist are useful tools to improve Rejlers' ongoing sustainability efforts. The checklist covers important areas within the environmental aspect of sustainability, which will help construction and project managers navigate future sustainability challenges. Hopefully, the checklist will then contribute to achieving the global environmental goals by the set deadline. For the checklist to be used and developed in the future, a shift in the work methodology of construction and project managers is required. This demands commitment and an open attitude toward change. To facilitate this, construction and project managers must ensure that the checklist is used in all projects and does not just remain unused on the desk. If successful, the use of the checklist will eventually become routine.

Byggbranschen är en av de branscher som bidrar mest till den rådande klimatkrisen och är på grund av detta hårt reglerade av globala hållbarhetsregler. Därför fokuserar det här examensarbetet på utvecklingen av en hållbarhetschecklista för byggföretaget Rejlers. Syftet med att utföra denna studie är att man idag ser brister med byggbranschens hållbarhetsarbete vilket till övervägande del beror på en kunskapsbrist hos både yrkesverksamma och beställare. Utmaningar man kan se är svårigheterna i att integrera hållbarhetsverktyg i arbetsmetoden och möjligheten att mäta och övervaka hållbarhetsprestanda. Målet är att stärka och organisera hållbarhetsarbetet inom byggsektorn, med särskild inriktning på att kombinera teoretisk forskning och praktiska insikter för att effektivisera hållbarhetsinsatser. Metoden som använts för att utföra detta examensarbete inkluderar litteraturstudier om ämnet hållbarhet, enkätundersökningar och analyser av ett referensprojekt för att samla in data och skapa en solid grund för checklistan. Enkätundersökningen, referensprojektet och en del av litteraturstudien fördjupade sig på företaget rejlers för att kartlägga hur hållbarhetsarbetet ser ut idag samt hur de förhåller sig till de globala miljömålen som agenda 2030 och parisavtalet. Genom att utföra detta med en källkritisk inställning, säkerställs metodens validitet, reliabilitet och generaliserbarhet. Resultaten visar att denna studie och den utvecklade hållbarhetschecklistan är ett användbart verktyg för att förbättra rejlers fortsatta arbete med hållbarhet. Checklistan täcker viktiga områden inom miljö-aspekten av hållbarhet vilken ska hjälpa bygg- och projektledare att navigera framtida hållbarhetsutmaningar. Förhoppningsvis ska checklistan sedan komma att bidra till att de globala miljömålen uppnås till den deadline som ställts. För att checklistan ska kunna användas och utvecklas i framtiden krävs en omställning i bygg- och projektledares arbetsmetodik. Detta kräver ett engagemang och en öppen inställning till förändring. För att underlätta detta krävs att bygg-och projektledare ansvarar för att checklistan används i alla projekt och inte bara blir liggande på skrivbordet. Om man lyckas med detta kommer användningen av checklistan tillslut att bli en rutin.
