Abstract [en]

Designing for VR requires bodily engagement in virtual space to have experiential understanding of how immersive environments feel like. However, VR technologies are not flexible enough to enable rapid and inclusive exploration of ideas. Glowing Bodies is a low-threshold, playful and participatory experience on the border between physical and digital that aims to enable such exploration without VR headsets for more inclusive co-design processes. In this experience, a group of participants uses light sticks as props to improvise virtual reality scenarios in near-to-complete darkness. Our aim with the demo is to introduce this novel participatory sketching technique to a larger community in the conference and gather insights about its embodied, playful, and collaborative aspects.
