In the article, we present the review of research and theories regarding peer friendships. We pay particular attention to how the phenomenon of bullying is related to friendship processes and how they are shaped by the institutional and systemic context of school. Analyzing the research results, we see that despite the implementation of anti-bullying programs or initiatives in schools and increasing awareness of the processes underlying bullying, we still observe a high prevalence of bullying incidents. It is therefore worth examining the protective factors that can prevent bullying but also mitigate the negative consequences of victimization experiences. In addition it seems necessary to pay attention to the school context, especially those elements that may facilitate or hinder the formation of supportive friendships.

W artykule zaprezentowaliśmy przegląd badań i teorii dotyczących przyjaźni rówieśniczych. Zwróciliśmy szczególną uwagę na to, jaki wpływ na rozwój przyjaźni ma instytucjonalny i systemowy kontekst szkoły oraz w jaki sposób przyjaźń wiąże się ze zjawiskiem bullyingu. Analiza wyników badań pokazuje, że to zjawisko wciąż się nasila, mimo wprowadzanych programów i implementowanych inicjatyw antybullyingowych w szkołach oraz coraz większej świadomości procesów leżących u podstaw bullyingu. Warto zatem przyjrzeć się przyjaźni jako czynnikowi chroniącemu przed bullyingiem jednostki i całe klasy, czynnikowi, które nie tylko może zapobiegać temu zjawisku, lecz także jednocześnie niweluje negatywne konsekwencje wiktymizacji. Szczególnie istotną rolę odgrywa tutaj szkoła, która może ułatwiać lub utrudniać zawieranie wspierających przyjaźni.
