The electrification transformation is something that sweeps across a wide range of mobile applications. This includes cars, trucks, construction machines and aircraft. However, some applications have come further than others. E.g. cars is rapidly becoming electrified, either fully battery electric, or as plug-in hybrids. However, aircraft are much more difficult to electrify, the main reason being the low specific energy of batteries. An alternative, is to use fuel cells and some hydrogen storage, either pressurized or cryogenic. In this paper the different technologies are compared looking at a cost-benefit factor, which is a method to compare technologies, while not looking at a specific design.
