The Lioness vibrator is a so-called ‘smart vibrator’, as the vibrator isequipped with biosensors that measure the contractions of thepelvic floor muscles and the intensity of the clitoral motor. Thevibrator is sold with the explicit goal for users to learn moreabout their sexual pleasure. In this article, I will argue that theassumed neutral perspective of knowledge production throughdatafication can be understood as a phallocentric perspective onsexual pleasure. In the Lioness, this logic can be seen in the wayits design privileges quantitative knowledge over qualitativeknowledge and logos over pathos while centring penetration andclitoral stimulation. Furthermore, the focus of the Lioness onimproving your orgasm turns sexual pleasure into a phallocentricgoal-oriented activity. I will show how well-meaning companiesusing a feminist predicate are unintentionally still privilegingphallocentric ways of thinking about sexual pleasure overalterative ways of thinking.
