We developed a haptic sleeve comprising 13 tunnels with McKibben muscles for psychophysicalexperiments. A McKibben muscle consists of a balloon inserted in a woven mesh. Inflating theballoon with air causes the mesh to contract, which creates pressure on the skin. Due to thenumber of actuators versatile patterns of haptic stimuli, like haptic illusions, can be presentedthrough the sleeve. The sleeve is a stepping stone for the development and exploration of futuretextile haptic actuators. Further applications of the sleeve include investigating mediated socialtouch and a previous investigation into the inherent meaning of pressure touch parameters.
